Elk Landing Comments on Town’s Proposal

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE ELK LANDING FOUNDATION

September 11, 2008

Elkton, MD… At its May, 2008 meeting, the Board of Directors of the Historic Elk Landing Foundation approved a motion to look further into a concept presented to the board by a developer to convert the recently acquired 10 acres of open space administered by the Foundation, into retail commercial space.  Approving the act, to explore the concept in no way constituted endorsement of this plan, but rather to see if it was in the best interest of Elk Landing.  In no way did this motion agree to cede the 10 acres of land to the town of Elkton for whatever development deal was being negotiated.   The Historic Elk Landing Foundation has a 99 year lease with the town of Elkton plus an option for another 99 years for all of its property and has no intention of breaking that lease.

Tell me Judge, why would you even consider this? Do you think that selling your land for commercial use will bring in more visitors? I doubt it. This is really, just sad, that this organization that is supposed to be supporting history and heritage, is willing to sell out like that. It should not have even been considered.

  2. Here goes this blog thing…
Politics, semantics…Could someone tell me what the “concept is” The best interest for Elk Landing is NO development. By the way, the Mayor is on your board “to protect the Town’s interest” He doesn’t have a clue what Elk Landing is about. Maybe a little conflict of interest. 99 year leases are made for a reason. Am I the only one to know that?

  3. Oh Debbie…you are so right, I think it is a conflict of interest. And this press release still doesn’t tell us what is going on!

  4. Don’t let ‘em run Fannie and Freddie too. They’ve made enough of a mess here. Goodness knows what’ll happen if they try to help Fannie and Freddie out.

    This bunch is running things!!

Thanks for posting on Someone Noticed, “the 411 on the Mayor and Commissioners of Elkton.” You’ll note that I deleted a part of your post in accordance with some of the very few basic guidelines that we have here. A little humor is actually welcome, but we don’t want to go too far with things and we don’t want to spread any more rumors. I think the town has done more than enough in that area by simply not stating what they’re trying to do.

I have a question for you. You say what a bunch running things. Were you referring the the Mayor and Commissioners, Elk Landing, or the Elkton Alliance? Or perhaps it was all of them.

I couldn’t figure that out from your posted comments and the part I deleted.
