We caught this piece in the Banner on the Cambridge City Council giving back 10% of its salary as a way of setting an example for dealing with the current financial situation. The subject was mentioned in an earlier post, but the paper’s report provides a little more information. We congratulate the Cambridge Mayor and Council for setting an example as it struggles to balance the budget.

The Cambridge City Council voted unanimously at its Dec. 22 meeting to decrease the salary of its elected-members by 10 percent. “It’s something I brought up in light of our financial situation,” said Mayor Victoria Jackson- Stanley, while introducing the proposal. “I want to take the leadership to show the city we are serious about holding everyone accountable for saving as much as we can of our budget. ” We are very serious about showing we want to improve our financial debt and it takes this little bit to show it,”
