From the Cecil Observer —–
But who knows about the bravery of Michael Murphy, Paul R. Smith, Jason Dunham, Michael A. Monsoor and Ross A. McGinnis? What grade school student, or college history or political science professor or student can identify any of these posthumous recipients of the Medal of Honor, who gave their lives in the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan?
Hollywood helped win World War II against the Japanese and Germans by providing motion pictures that inspired the public and excited the American spirit. Historians rightly claim that patriotic films shown on the silver screen reinforced the important war efforts on the home front, and these films had a positive effect on troops engaged in combat overseas.
Today, while our troops are in harm’s way, movie executives offer poorly attended movie houses a steady stream of films based on adolescent bathroom humor, sappy romances and futuristic battles starring robots and machines.
