Purpose
Originally concentrating on saving some Public Open Space Elkton proposed selling to a developer, we expanded the blog's focus once the Mayor and Commissioners abandoned the attempt. During the nearly year-long process, Someone Noticed found that many important subjects at town meetings weren’t being covered by the media and we also established a regular readership. In consideration of all these elements, we are now focusing more broadly on the “411 on the Mayor and Commissioners of the Town of Elkton” and subjects of broad civic interest to the Greater Elkton Community, especially when it isn't covered by other media. DELEGATE SMIGEL BLOCKED ME FROM HIS FACEBOOK FRIENDS, SO NOW I’M BACK TO THE BLOGOSHPHERE! DID YOU MISS ME? OH LORD DELEGATE SMIGIEL HAS BRAINWASHED YOU! YOU’VE TURNED INTO A REPUBLICAN BLOGGER! GOOD GOD, WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TOO!? AND YES, I AM WELL AWARE THIS IS ALL IN CAP LOCKS WHICH MAKES IT SOUND LIKE I’M YELLING! THAT’S BECAUSE I AM, I’M THE CRAZY SHOUTING OLD MAN!
AND ONE MORE THING BUDDY, YOU DIRECTED THE TEA PARTY!? I THOUGHT I SAW YOU OUT THERE WITH A SARAH PALIN FOR PRESIDENT SIGN! WHAT HAS BECOME OF YOU!? DIDN’T I TEACH YOU RIGHT IN SCHOOL?!
Crazy History Teacher — We noticed that you hadn’t surfed over to Someone Noticed and were curious where you were. So now you’re back to the web since Delegate Smigiel blocked you as a Facebook friend.
As for turning this into a Republican blog, don’t worry about us. We’re doing just fine. Our basic philosophies and oreintation haven’t cahnged. But our approach is to try to cover political happenings in an accurate straight-forward sort of way. When they pull off a successful tea party, well that’s what they did and its a simple news story. When they issue a press release related to local campaign issues, that worthy of posting. If the other side doesn’t make use of these methods and prefer legacy media for their press releases, there’s not much we can do about that. But we’ve weighed in on that point before since we think a good discussion with the pros and cons of both sides is helpful to the citizenry.
We weigh in with our opinion pieces as we have our own thoughts on this.
We also believe that lots of sunshine on news and activities related to advocacy, politics and local government is critical for good government and that’s something that we don’t have a lot.
When one of the groups calls something that we think is important, we’re going to speak up about it too. Thus, for example, we appreciate the sunshine the Young Republicans put on recent issues at county government, the development of the budget, and the closed door meetings. We wouldn’t have known about some of those were it not for new media.
None of that has changed our positions on the major issues, but we aprpeciate professionally done advocacy for a cause, any reasonable cause. Some are doing that very well! Wish there were more, but that’s just our opinion.
Old Teacher, I did not direct the Tea-Party. Not sure where you getting that from. Just trying to stir things up since Delegate Smigiel isn’t communicating with you these days? The organizers of the Tea Party handled that task most efficiently.
As for carrying a Sarah Palin sign, definitely not.
