Mayor & Commissioners Invite Public to Wastewater Treatment Plant Dedication, April 30th

Elkton will dedicate its new wastewater treatment plant on April 30th at 1:00 p.m. and an invitation from the Mayor and Commissioners invites the public to the ceremony.  That decision came about at the March 3 board meeting after Commissioner Givens asked why the event couldn’t be opened to citizens.  “You’re dealing with dignitaries or people with a title.  What about the public, what provisions are you going to come up with for them,” he asked when Kim Kamp, Assistant Town Administrator, discussed the guest list.  “I’m like Charlie, we’re asking the public to pay for the plant.  I certainly think they should be invited,” Commissioner Storke added.  As they mulled over whether to open the event to citizens, the problems of safety and managing a crowd were discussed.  The exchange ended with Commissioner Givens saying “Just think of a way we can get the public there.  That’s all we are asking”
