State Lottery Director Stephen Martino defended his agency’s decision to spend $50 million for slot machines at a Cecil County gaming parlor, arguing Monday afternoon the top-tier machines are needed to keep Maryland competitive with neighboring states.
In response to criticism about the size of the contract given the state’s cash-strapped budget, Martino issued a press release outlining the expenses and the projected revenue they will help Maryland capture in the future
