Security at Elkton Town Meeting Strengthened; Mayor Requests Police Presence

Elkton Town Hall, June 16, 2010 – A uniformed police officer has recently been detailed to provide added security at town meetings.  The beefed up arrangement, which started about the time Elkton’s election season wrapped up, is continuing into the new term.  At Wednesday’s session, an officer stood at attention in the rear of the room, carefully keeping an eye on all the proceedings.  When Someone Noticed asked if there were mounting concerns about safety at town meetings, Kim Kamp, assistant town administrator, said the mayor had requested the presence of the police department.  Prior to the mayor’s detailing of a police guard at meetings, other protective measures had been implemented to improve safety for officials and the public.

  1. What caused them to need two cops there? Send some of them to some of those corners downtown where there is real stuff going on. There is real crime going on there and those cops won’t be bored like they are guarding Joe..

  2. Fred:

According to the town’s public info officer tires had been slashed on election day so the mayor requested additional security at the town meetings.
