Elkton Layoff Designed to Reduce Cost of Town Administration

Just over a month into the new fiscal year the Elkton Town Board has voted to abolish a position included in the carefully crafted, new budget.  The Mayor and Commissioners eliminated the assistant town administrator’s job as a cost cutting move that’s designed “to reduce administration operating costs,” Lewis George told Someone Noticed.  Because of the layoff work previously done by Kim Kamp will be streamlined with others taking on those tasks.  Before the layoff, she served as the public information officer, researched public policy matters for decision makers, and assisted the administrator in execution of day-to-day operations.  Kim was hired about two years ago to replace Andrew Johnson, who had held the position for several years.  The last day for the town spokesperson was August 6.   Elkton’s town board has been meeting in a number of executive sessions lately, and at the last meeting  the board voted unanimously to go into a closed session.  The state reason was to discuss personnel.
