These days practically everyone is jumping on the social networking bandwagon, using web 2.0 products such as Facebook, Blogs, and Twitter to provide timely information to interested followers. Some use it as a direct advertising medium, while others keep people informed about what’s going on within a group or a circle of friends. The latest to get onboard is the Cecil County Department of Emergency Services (DES). The county agency is now sending out messages (tweeting) on the social networking site as it provides citizens with important up-to-date information and news through this direct approach.
“The Twitter account will be updated frequently with weather information, emergency updates, safety tips, and DES news,” advises Jim Bass, an Emergency Planner. Residents can follow DES via the Twitter website, SMS text alerts, or as an RSS feed. It’s easy to monitor these direct Emergency Services messages and register so that the tweets arrive directly on your computer. You may find Emergency Services at http://twitter.com/#!/CecilCountyDES. Any questions can be directed to Emergency Planner Jim Bass at 410-392-2034.
