The Maryland Transportation Authority is hoping to ease future congestion along Route 222 at the I-95 interchange and could spearhead an effort to widen the highway between Route 40 and the interchange.
Representatives of MdTA told members of the casino-related local development council during a Feb. 10 meeting in Perryville that traffic on I-95 is projected to increase by more than 70 percent over the next 30 years.
“This area is going to grow substantially,” MdTA project manager Russell Walto said, citing features like the new Hollywood Casino Perryville as contributing to that increase.
