April 26, Elkton—Eight clubs from four states competed in the 3rd Annual “Chopper” Challenge. The four 19th Century Base Ball Clubs from the state of Maryland took on four rivals from New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania in a series of matches that took place throughout the weekend at Elk Landing.
The home town club, the Eclipse Base Ball Club of Elkton walked away with three wins and just one loss, while the Talbot Fair Plays, the Chesapeake & Potomac BBC, and the Havre de Grace Dauntless from Maryland each split their matches and finished with one win and one loss.
The award for the most outstanding club though goes to the Somerset Club from western Pennsylvania. They left town with 4 victories including a 19-14 win over Elkton, a 9-7 defeat of the Flemington Neshanock, a 17-12 win over Chesapeake & Potomac and an extra inning win against Talbot.
